Mexico is a North American country with amazing landscapes, impeccable beaches washed by the azure Caribbean Sea and the mighty Pacific Ocean, culture, architecture, and cuisine where the features of Spanish, Caribbean, and Indian heritage are intertwined. It is an incomparable mixture of sea, desert, and mountains. Ancient monuments of mysterious civilizations in tropical thickets, where Mayan hieroglyphs can be seen on the walls of Palenque temples, and colorful parrots cry in the background. Powerful turquoise waves of surf on bright white beaches and mysterious underwater caves surrounded by fish, as if painted in bright gouache. Moreover, there are 300 local varieties of tequila to enjoy along with incendiary melodies. All colors, tastes, and sensations in Mexico are bright, juicy, and clean, so there is always something to enjoy.

Yacht Hosts for Yacht Rental in Mexico

If you are planning to rent a yacht in Mexico, some of the best places to visit are Puerto Vallarta in Banderas Bay on the Pacific coast and La Paz in the Gulf of California.

    Nearest Airports in Mexico

The nearest airports to these places are Puerto Vallarta Licenciado Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR), Tijuana General Abelardo L. Rodriguez International Airport (TIJ), and Mexico City Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX).

    Features of Yachting in Mexico

The yachting difficulty level in the Mexican Gulf of Banderas and the Gulf of California is medium. Yachting in these areas is distinguished by easy navigation, calm seas, and good sandy anchorages. The water area of tidal waters has an amplitude of 3 meters, and daytime moorings are recommended. Lateral system B is applied, where red lights and signs are on the right side, and green lights and signs are on the left. Before going out to sea, you must visit the head of the port and provide a detailed route with all stops and information about all crew members.

The climate in Mexico is tropical, with dry and wet seasons and high humidity. The air temperature in summer does not fall below +30, and the water temperature is +25-27. Temperatures can drop significantly at night. The rainy season with powerful tropical cyclones is from June to October. The most favorable time for yachting in Mexico is from November to May.

In winter, northeasterly winds of 20-25 knots prevail, while in summer, the winds weaken and change direction to the southeast. During the daytime, the wind usually blows as scheduled from 10 am to 6 pm.

Pacific Bay Banderas Yacht Route from Puerto Vallarta

A 7-day itinerary for a yacht trip around Banderas Bay from Puerto Vallarta is a must-do. The route includes stopovers at Puerto Vallarta, Elapa, Pelican Island, San Blas, Isabella Island, Chacala, Cruz de Huanacaxtle, and Puerto Vallarta. A detailed description of anchorages with GPS coordinates and distances (in miles) for daily sailings is available.

Banderas Bay is the largest on the Pacific coast of Mexico and the second-largest in North America, after Hudson Bay. The elevation changes in the bay area are very contrasting. In some places, it may seem that you are looking at it from an airplane, but in just half a mile, you can be 3,000 feet deep in blue water. This creates a 45-degree canyon wall forked by crystal blue water. On one side, you can see mountains and lush tropical flora and fauna, while on the other, a magnificent turquoise bay. The horseshoe-shaped Banderas Bay is surrounded by beautiful sandy beaches all around, offering panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, the city of Puerto Vallarta, and the Sierra Madre. The name “Bandera” means “flag” in Spanish. When the Spaniards first arrived here in 1525, they were attacked by various tribes of warlike Indians, over which fluttered flying cotton flags of different colors. Since then, the Spaniards have referred to this area as the Bay of Flags or Banderas Bay.

In conclusion, yachting in Mexico is an incredible experience that offers breathtaking views and unforgettable memories. From the amazing landscapes to the perfect beaches, delicious cuisine, and warm culture, there is something for everyone. Whether you are a seasoned sailor or a novice, the Mexican Gulf of Banderas and the Gulf of California are ideal for yachting, with easy navigation and calm seas. So, grab your yacht, gather your crew, and set sail on the adventure of a lifetime!
