Metal Shark, an American shipyard that has been manufacturing steel and aluminum vessels for many years, has always catered to military, rescuers, fire and pilot services. However, in 2020, the company introduced Metal Shark Yachts, a new division to build private boats for recreational purposes.
The first three vessels in the portfolio are expedition catamarans ranging from 30 to 70 meters in length: M30, M48, and M70.
M48 model

The M48 model was the first to be launched and is an average-sized vessel at 48 meters long. It is named Magnet and is owned by George Wallner, who has been with Metal Shark for a decade. The basis for the three-deck multi-hull was the Australian catamarans Incat Crowther, and the hull was optimized for maximum range and speed while the design is inspired by Metal Shark’s military patrol boats.
The Magnet is 12 meters wide, has a draft of 2 meters, and a displacement of 275 tons. With 110,000 liters of fuel and a pair of Tier III MTU 16V 2000M 96L engines, it can cover up to 11,000 nautical miles without refueling at an average speed of 10 knots. The maximum speed during sea trials was 27 knots. These performances make it possible to travel from New York to Miami in 48 hours or cross the Atlantic at an average speed of 17 knots without the need to refuel.
The Magnet was built with the aim of enabling travel to remote areas where flying is impossible, and to provide comfortable, autonomous accommodation in those locations, including 12 solar panels on the roof. The hydraulic platform between the hulls can hold up to 2.2 tons of cargo, and there is a crane with a lifting capacity of 1.5 tons installed at the stern for heavy equipment.
The catamaran can accommodate up to 5 cabins, including a master cabin and a VIP on the upper deck, and has an interior space of almost 400 square meters. The layout of future models can be customized according to the client’s requirements.
M30 model

The M30 model is the youngest in the line and is 30 meters in length, 18 meters shorter than the M48 but 1.5 meters wider. Unlike the Magnet, it has a superstructure with only two levels, and it can accommodate 2 owners, 4 guests, and 4 crew members. It is expected to have a top speed of 30 knots and a maximum range of 7,000 nautical miles at 10 knots.
M70 model

The largest vessel in the Metal Shark Yachts portfolio is the M70, measuring 70 meters in length, 20 meters in width, and featuring 4 decks of superstructure. It has enough space on board for a helipad and can reach a maximum speed of 30 knots. However, the maximum range is expected to be 9,000 nautical miles with an average speed of 12 nautical miles, which is 2,000 nautical miles less than the M48.
